CompEx Celebrates 25th Anniversary – Safety in Hazardous Environments

The CompEx scheme celebrated its 25th anniversary on the 28th May 2018 and celebrated the huge impact it has had on improved safety in the workplace during that time.

CompEx Celebrates 25th Anniversary – The CompEx Scheme came about as a direct result of Lord Cullen’s 13-month investigation into the Piper Alpha tragedy and led to 106 recommendations that transformed the North Sea oil and gas industry into a global leader in safety in these hazardous environments.

The CompEx scheme was launched in 1993 and the phenomenal success of the scheme has been marked with many milestones along the way, with Aberdeen College subsidiary ASET the first commercial centre in 1994, ten years later it was celebrating the 10,000 candidate certificated for Gas & Vapour and in 2010 that number had risen to 25,000. Electronic online examinations were introduced in 2013 and JT Limited took over ownership of the scheme from EEMUA a year later in 2014.

DSEAR Inspections – Hazardous Area Ex Inspections

What is DSEAR?

The DSEAR (Dangerous Substance and Explosive Atmosphere Regulation 2002) is a UK legal regulation. The European ATEX directives are integrated into to the DSEAR regulations and place the same responsibilities on employers
to ensure that work places storing or handling dangerous or flammable substances are made safe for employees to carry out their work.

Our Services

C&P Engineering Services provide DSEAR inspections that provide the necessary documented evidence that verifies that all installed electrical or mechanical equipment is certified, has the correct protection concept, is fit
for purpose and safe to use in the potentially explosive atmosphere area. Our CompEx or IECEx certified trained engineering inspectors have significant experience and industrial tacit knowledge from within the oil, gas, petrochemical, chemical, steel, pharmaceutical power generation and heavy engineering industries.

Our DSEAR inspections area carried out in accordance with the British Standard BS EN 60019-17 or the internationally recognised Standard IEC 60079-17 (The Inspection and Maintenance of Electrical Installations in Hazardous Areas).

Health & Safety

Thursday, October 17th, 2013

There are many reasons why we have become the first choice hazardous area contractor for many of our customers and one of the main reasons for this is our comprehensive approach to project health and safety management.

Management & Experience

The vast majority of our operations are carried out on COMAH tier 1 & 2 sites, Offshore platforms and typically hazardous area workplaces/environments that may contain or have activities that produce, explosive or potentially explosive atmospheres which can be caused by flammable gases, mists or vapours or by combustible dusts within the petrochemical, chemical, steel, power generation, pharmaceutical and oil and gas industries.

Since 1973, we have continually developed and improved our health & safety knowledge base and operational systems to the point where we are now recognised as one of the leading hazardous area contractors in our field, not only within the UK but internationally and with projects carried out safely, on time and on budget from Western Europe to the Far East.

Our Project Managers are supremely experienced and highly trained in the use of hazard identification and risk elimination and reduction techniques to ensure that our projects are carried out in the safest possible manner and they are empowered to use all necessary resources to ensure inherently safe operations.

All potential hazards and health and safety risks are identified and negated or minimised from the outset to ensure safe working environments for our employees and our customers’ stakeholders.

Our CompEx project engineers and technical installation and maintenance staff are highly trained, experienced and competent in their designated area of operation and carry out their work in a safe and efficient manner with the least possible disruption to our customers’ business.

Training

We recognise that ongoing training and continuous development of our staff is essential for us to achieve our health and safety goals and we have developed industry leading systems to ensure that all of our employees are provided with the necessary skills and experience to carry out their role safely and efficiently whilst working fully in accordance with globally recognised best practice.
