ATEX Hazardous Area Inspections
Customer Profile
C&P Engineering Services were asked to provide ATEX Hazardous Area Inspection Services for a client that is ranked among the top upstream engineering centres worldwide and who provide support services for all types of onshore and offshore oil and gas projects.
Technical Remit
The scope of works required C&P to carry out hazardous area detailed inspections on instrumentation and electrical ‘Ex’ rated equipment that had been installed on a newly constructed oil skid which was due to be shipped to Brazil.
ATEX Hazardous Area Inspections Services Provided
Detailed Hazardous Area inspections were conducted on instrumentation, fire detection systems, lighting, power and various other ‘Ex’ rated electrical equipment installed by others. Subsequent paper work and signing off was completed, forming part of a dossier as required by BSEN60079-14, which needed to be in place before the skid was granted permission to be shipped. The main LER (Local Equipment Room) which was constructed also formed part of the inspection remit.
In addition to the onshore detailed ATEX inspections for the process skid, C&P were also requested to carry out factory based inspections at the OEMs’ manufacturing facility to ensure all instrumentation met the requirement of the customer’s specification and that conformity and certification was accurate and correct prior to dispatch of the various components to the Shipyard.
